Rogue members of a US platoon, 5th Stryker Brigade, Combat Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, are accused of formulating a plan to target and kill Afghan civilians for sport. Some kept bones,a skull and other body parts as souvenirs.
Reports indicate that these soldiers talked about the plan for weeks, floated the idea around until opportunity presented itself; a solitary Afghan male civilian walking toward them. One soldier threw a fragmentary grenade on the ground. Feigning an attack on their unit when it exploded, the other soldiers opened fire, killing the innocent civilian. In the grisliest allegations since the US entered the war in 2001, there are now questions about the Army ignoring reports from one of the parents of a soldier who complained about the first murder. The father of that soldier said he has repeatedly tried to report this to the Army only to be rebuffed.
