The pursuit of happiness is a fundamental right granted us all -except it seems in cases where it clashes against the religious beliefs of others. A persons civil rights should not be a situation left to voting by the general public.  We have LIVED through such votes; Jim Crow laws for example.  Does anyone really think had it been left strictly to voting that integration would have EVER occurred???  Or the oppressive Pogroms of Nazi Germany which started out as a boycott of Jewish businesses and ended in the annihilation of millions. Hitler didn't just march in and roll over the rights of the people; he did so under the color of law.  We are talking about RIGHTS, EQUAL RIGHTS and every American should have them regardless of the particular religious dictates. If there are limits of those religious organizations against performing the marriage ceremony then let those who seek marriages go to the justice of the peace- or whom ever- but to simply deny them the right to enter into such a union is a violation of their civil rights. Period.

I never thought I would see this bill pass but it did. Now it will go to referendum it seems- but should it? I believe it is a civil rights matter. The pursuit of happiness is a right everyone has. It should NOT be left to a vote. Would we as a nation ever embrace the changes we needed to make if it came to a vote? This situation is exactly why the founding fathers separated church and state.
